How Long Are Google Ad Certifications Valid?
One year. Unless you really want to fork over money to Google every year, you are better off looking for a community college certification program or Associate’s Degree program. If you really want to be successful, look for a Business Entrepreneurial program that includes the theory of marketing as well as the technical skills of the Google Ad certifications.
As with all certification programs, certification programs that are sponsored by a company for a specific technology expire (technology changes). Associate Degree programs (2 year program) and Bachelor Degree Programs (4 year program) that include the foundation theory, as well as the skills, never expire. Once you earn those degrees, nobody can take your credentials away from you or tell you that they expire unless you pay them more money.
As you can tell from my comments, I am not a fan of these certification programs that expire. In the short run, they may look like the better option (less expensive, less time), but in the long, a program from an accredited school that combines theory with technical knowledge is the better option. As I said before, once you earned those credentials, nobody can take them away from you.
What Is The Cost Of Becoming Google Ad Certified?
It costs $50 to take each exam. You have to pass two exams in order to become certified, so the total cost is $100. If you have to repeat an exam, it is another $50. And yes, you have to retake the exams every year.
What Is The Cost To Take Google Skillshop Courses (lessons)?
From what I can see, there are no costs to watch Google’s training videos. And yes, you can watch the videos without any requirement to actually pay and take Google’s certification exams.
Will It Hurt My Resume To Not Have This Certification?
Create a portfolio that displays examples of different ad campaigns and the corresponding ads you created. At the end of the day, a future employer wants to actually see that you can do what you claim you can do. The items in your professional portfolio can either be ficticious companies with ficticious ads, actual business with actual ads, or even a business idea you always dreamed of creating.
You can also apply to work with a larger advertising company, where you are being hired to work as appentice under another person. Yes, you will be doing the grunt work, but if you keep your eyes and ears open, and are not afraid to ask questions, you can learn a lot from those with more experience than you.
Even with the best educational programs, in every field, there are some things that cannot be explained in a textbook. You just have to experience them.
In terms of Google Ads, if Google’s own training videos are free to watch, definitely take advantage of them. Who is going to know Google’s product better than Google?
But in terms of a long term educational investment, find a solid entrepreneurial program that combines theory with skills. In other words, get your foundation education from an accredited 2-year or 4-year program. Once you get those credentials, nobody can take them away from you and tell you that they expire. To demonstrate that your skills are up to date, keep examples of your best work in professional portfolio.
